Out of my many childhood memories, there has always been one that stood out in
my mind: The wonderful birthday cakes my Mom made for my sister and me. I
loved browsing through her decorating idea books and dreaming up my own
ideas and special requests. A favorite was a 3D unicorn. She also made a
Cabbage Patch Kid, Rainbow Bright, and Care Bear. (Can you tell we were
children of the 80’s?) Plus, there are many more tucked away in my memory files.

This special collection of memories is something I wanted to share with my
children. So, in the summer of 2003, I signed up for my first cake decorating
class at a local craft store. The same type of classes my mom took, in fact. I was
determined that I was going to make the cakes for my twins’ first birthday in
October of 2003.

Well, I did just that, and I was hooked. I knew I had found a new hobby and
something that I really enjoyed. Since October of 2003, family and friends have
kept me busy for their own special occasions or through referrals. This website
is a collection of these creations.

Decorating cakes allows me to share in a special time in a person’s life. It is a
way to help celebrate and make the day or event even more memorable. People
always ask me, “Does it bother you that after you have spent so much time on a
cake, that it is taken apart and eaten?” My answer is always something along the
lines of, “No, that’s what it is for and you know that going into this.” That is what
is so enjoyable about this: That you can have your (beautiful/cute/fun/creative)
cake and eat it too!

In closing, I’d like to thank all of my family and friends for their support and
encouragement. Mom – Thank you for your inspiration.
